MY CARDS WITH THE NEW RELEASE

I have two cards for you that I made with new stamp sets from Studio Katia! Both of them feature pencil coloring details on top of a base layer that is colored with a different medium. I really like this method of coloring (I like to call it “two step coloring”) because doing my base layer with Copics or watercolors is a lot faster than starting with colored pencils from the beginning (that’s always a plus when you’re impatient like me or short on crafty time! 😉 ). But by adding details with colored pencils on top I still get the the kind of shading that I am looking for! This is my first card:

“LOVELY BLOOMS” CARD

Studio Katia Pencil Coloring Card Lovely Blooms

I picked the wonderful big flower image from Studio Katia’s “Lovely Blooms” for this card and stamped it twice onto my panel. I used a similar color scheme as on this flower card but I mixed the look up by not caring too much about realistic coloring and choosing blue-greens for the big blossom and light blue for some of the leaves. My base layer with Copic markers did not give me great shading so I added a lot of detail with colored pencils. To get the depth I wanted I used really dark tones in the tiny nooks and crannies of the image, like a very dark green pencil for the big flower and even black for the light blue leaves.

(I use a mixture of Caran d’Ache – Luminance Pencils and Chameleon – Color Tones Pencils by the way. I also have a few Faber Castell Pencils in my collection. All these brands are slightly different to work with but you can get great results with each of them, I believe.)

After coloring the flowers I masked them using masking paper and ink blended over them with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink. I added splatters with clear water and also with black watercolor paint. I stamped the “crafty friend” birthday sentiment from the new Birthday Greetings Stamp Set with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. Some sequins from Studio Katia’s Sparkling Sea Confetti Mix and Nuvo Drops for the center of the big flowers finished my design off!

I also added a bit of stamping to the inside of my card – just because I really liked those Birthday Greetings:

“KOBI BEARING GIFTS” CARD

Now onto my second card – this is a cute one! That Kobi Bearing Gifts is really an adorable image, love his tummy and paws! 😀

This time I used watercolor markers for my base layer. Once it was completely dry, I added my second layer with colored pencils. I kept the balloons pretty light all in all because I wanted the main focus to be on Kobi the bear and his pile of gifts! I brought in some red and violet shades to the presents for some contrast and added a little sparkle to them with Studio Katia’s white April Crystals. To color Kobi’s fur I made sure to sharpen my colored pencils really well and then added lots of tiny flicks – darker towards the outside lines and brighter in the middle of his tummy and where the light would be.

For the sentiment I stamped “Happy Birthday” and Hooray” from Kobi Bearing Gifts onto some of the balloons (they fit perfectly 🙂 ) and “Wishing You A Year Of Joy & Friendship” from the Birthday Greetings Stamp Set across the bottom of my card. Hope you like the finished card design!
