Honey Bee Zen Bouquet with WOW Embossing Rose Glintz (Blog Hop & Giveaway)

Hello and welcome to my blog!!

As some of you might already know, I am guest designer for WOW Embossing this month and today I am joining the WOW Design Team for a collaboration blog hop with Honey Bee Stamps! Yay! As I am also a DT Alumni of Honey Bee Stamps I am especially happy to be part of the blog hop with them today. πŸ™‚

If you are hopping along, you should have come from Riikka Kovasin. Your next stop is gonna be Vera Yates. We all hope this collaboration inspires you all!

SIMPLE CARDS WITH HEAT EMBOSSING

Ever since I got the Rose Glintz Embossing Powder from WOW and made a swatch with it I couldn’t wait to use it on a card. It has such a wonderful rose gold color and beautiful shine when the light catches it! And I already had the perfect image in mind to use with it – HoneyBee Stamps’ Zen Bouquet! I have seen photos of it being used on cards with just stamping (no coloring) and it looked gorgeous! So I thought heat embossing without coloring would definetely work as well and I have to say, I really like how it came out! In fact, I liked it so much that I couldn’t stop experimenting and creating and ended up making a whole bunch of cards! Take a look yourself:

I started with heat embossing the Zen Bouquet in Rose Glintz on colored cardstock and had a specific look in mind – but I had forgotten that this embossing powder is not entirely opaque. WOW has a line of opaque powders as well, but this is not one of them – my bad. πŸ˜‰ So, for example on the teal cardstock the Rose Glintz ended up looking a bit darker and less rose than I thought. I still liked the look and beautiful metallic shine of the powder on the colored cardstocks but nonetheless I went ahead and embossed the Zen Bouquet again on Neenah solar white cardstock for that rose gold tone. Since the bouquet is a reeeally big image I could get two card panels out of one round of stamping & heat embossing and ended up with a couple of background pieces for cards after all!

To put my cards together I used several different Honey Bee Stamps sentiment dies (you’ll find a full list of supplies down below). For the kindness-themed cards I heat embossed the kind / kindness die cuts with WOW Metalline Greengage (soft green) and Metalline Himalayan Musk (dark violet) embossing powders. I pressed the Embossing Ink Pad directly onto the die cut pieces and picked them up with my tweezers to then heat emboss them.

The only card where I felt like it needed some coloring was the lilac one. I wanted to tie in the white from the cardbase so that the heat embossed image wouldn’t get lost. Therefore I took my white Luminance Colored Pencil and added a few highlights to the flower bouquet.

Pencil Coloring Details with Studio Katia (Blog Hop)

A very excited hello! πŸ™‚

I am taking part in my first blog hop today, yay!! Studio Katia is turning TWO and is celebrating their 2nd Anniversary with a mega two day blog hop! I am sooo happy to be a part of it!! Did you see all of the AH-MAZING crafters in the list?! I was having multiple fangirl moments when I saw it lol! So exciting!! I honestly adore all of these crafters!

You should have arrived from very talented Nina-Marie and my lovely crafty friend Rubeena is your next stop!

MY CARDS WITH THE NEW RELEASE

I have two cards for you that I made with new stamp sets from Studio Katia! Both of them feature pencil coloring details on top of a base layer that is colored with a different medium. I really like this method of coloring (I like to call it “two step coloring”) because doing my base layer with Copics or watercolors is a lot faster than starting with colored pencils from the beginning (that’s always a plus when you’re impatient like me or short on crafty time! πŸ˜‰ ). But by adding details with colored pencils on top I still get the the kind of shading that I am looking for! This is my first card:

“LOVELY BLOOMS” CARD

Studio Katia Pencil Coloring Card Lovely Blooms

I picked the wonderful big flower image from Studio Katia’s “Lovely Blooms” for this card and stamped it twice onto my panel. I used a similar color scheme as on this flower card but I mixed the look up by not caring too much about realistic coloring and choosing blue-greens for the big blossom and light blue for some of the leaves. My base layer with Copic markers did not give me great shading so I added a lot of detail with colored pencils. To get the depth I wanted I used really dark tones in the tiny nooks and crannies of the image, like a very dark green pencil for the big flower and even black for the light blue leaves.

(I use a mixture of Caran d’Ache – Luminance Pencils and Chameleon – Color Tones Pencils by the way. I also have a few Faber Castell Pencils in my collection. All these brands are slightly different to work with but you can get great results with each of them, I believe.)

After coloring the flowers I masked them using masking paper and ink blended over them with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink. I added splatters with clear water and also with black watercolor paint. I stamped the “crafty friend” birthday sentiment from the new Birthday Greetings Stamp Set with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. Some sequins from Studio Katia’s Sparkling Sea Confetti Mix and Nuvo Drops for the center of the big flowers finished my design off!

I also added a bit of stamping to the inside of my card – just because I really liked those Birthday Greetings:

“KOBI BEARING GIFTS” CARD

Now onto my second card – this is a cute one! That Kobi Bearing Gifts is really an adorable image, love his tummy and paws! πŸ˜€

Studio Katia Pencil Coloring Card Kobi Bearing Gifts

This time I used watercolor markers for my base layer. Once it was completely dry, I added my second layer with colored pencils. I kept the balloons pretty light all in all because I wanted the main focus to be on Kobi the bear and his pile of gifts! I brought in some red and violet shades to the presents for some contrast and added a little sparkle to them with Studio Katia’s white April Crystals. To color Kobi’s fur I made sure to sharpen my colored pencils really well and then added lots of tiny flicks – darker towards the outside lines and brighter in the middle of his tummy and where the light would be.

For the sentiment I stamped “Happy Birthday” and Hooray” from Kobi Bearing Gifts onto some of the balloons (they fit perfectly πŸ™‚ ) and “Wishing You A Year Of Joy & Friendship” from the Birthday Greetings Stamp Set across the bottom of my card. Hope you like the finished card design!
