Cherry Blossoms Card for Ruby’s Crafty Anniversary (Blog Hop & Giveaway)

Hello and welcome!

Today I am so happy and honored to be part of my crafty friend Rubeena’s Crafting Anniversary 2-Day Blog Hop with a pretty card using Pretty Pink Posh’s “Cherry Blossoms”! 🙂

If you are hopping along, you should have come from Svitlana Shayevich. Your next stop is the lovely Dana Gong.

LET’S CELEBRATE CARDMAKING!

With this blog hop, we are celebrating not only four years since Rubeena first discovered cardmaking but also crafting in general. And I think there is a lot to celebrate! Since I discovered stamping and cardmaking around September of 2014 – which happens to be almost the same time as Ruby did – it has enriched my life in so many ways, I would have never guessed it beforehand. It has brought crafting and creativity back to my life, it helps me to unwind when life is crazy and calms me down. And finally, I have met so many wonderful people through this little hobby of ours I still have a hard time believing it myself. ♥ This started when I joined Instagram and shared my first cards there. I worked up the courage to ask another cardmaker who I admired if she wanted to be my card penpal (we still exchange cards to this day). Through commenting, chatting and Kathy Racoosin’s coloring challenge I got to know many other crafters from all over the world and some of them have become close friends, which I am so thankful for!

The power of handmade mail showing up in your mailbox is amazing. Especially when it’s unexpected and a friend sends you a card “just because”… That always means so much to me! We can all use a little ray of sunshine sometimes, don’t we? 🙂 That’s why I chose a “Thinking of you” card for today’s hop. Here it is:

MY CHERRY BLOSSOMS CARD

Cherry Blossoms Card Pretty Pink Posh

I combined a few of my favorite techniques on this card. First: ink blending! And splattering over it to give it more interest. 🙂 I like to use water to splatter over ink blended backgrounds but also ink or watercolor for colored splatters. Here, I used Distress Oxide Ink (Shaded Lilac) and Distress Ink (Spun Sugar). Second: die cutting! To me, adding die-cuts makes a card look extra special and professional. 😀 I chose a “Scallop Frames” die from Pretty Pink Posh. And third: loose watercoloring! At least that’s what I call it lol … What I mean is putting on some watercolor without filling in the whole image. Even if you add a second layer like I did it’s rather fast and you don’t have to worry at all about shading. 🙂

The flower images are from Pretty Pink Posh’s “Cherry Blossoms” stamp set and the sentiment is from their “Bee Friends” set. To finish my design off I added a couple of Nuvo Drops to my flowers and the background.

  1. Lovely colours on this pretty card. I’m new to water colouring, so loose is the only thing I’m good at so far. Love the artistic flair it adds to a project. Thanks for the inspiration.
